Student Spotlight: Shamindri’s Journey from Sri Lanka to Canada

Study abroad in Canada

At Fraser Educational Consultants (FEC), we are proud to celebrate the success of our students who have taken the leap to study abroad. Today, we highlight the inspiring journey of Shamindri, who moved from Sri Lanka to Canada to pursue higher education—and has since built a rewarding career.

A Trusted Recommendation

Shamindri first heard about Fraser Education through a family friend. After receiving strong recommendations, she decided to work with FEC to help navigate the process of studying abroad.

Guidance Every Step of the Way

From the beginning, Shamindri felt supported. “I felt very well supported and it was a great experience,” she shared. “They laid out all of my options and gave advice on the best one for me.”

Our team helped her with subject selection, program choices, and preparation for her new life in Canada. Even after arrival, FEC continued to provide guidance with course scheduling, on-campus housing, and regular check-ins.

Life Abroad in Canada

Shamindri chose to study abroad because she wanted new experiences and opportunities. Canada has offered her much more than academics:

  • Meeting people from around the world

  • Taking part in international festivals and cultural events

  • Learning independence and adapting to a new environment

“Studying abroad has been an interesting and rewarding experience so far,” she said.

From Student to Professional

After completing her Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting Major at Thompson Rivers University, Shamindri successfully graduated and has now stepped into her professional career. She is currently working full-time as an accountant in Canada while preparing for the Chartered Professional Accountancy (CPA) exam.

Would She Recommend FEC?

Absolutely. “I would recommend FEC to other students. They were able to answer any questions I had about living in Canada or about my university,” Shamindri explained.

She also shared a piece of practical advice for future students: “Be mindful of the Canadian seasons when making your course schedule—don’t pick early morning classes in winter!”
